Frequently Asked Questions
What is the story behind your logo?
The Faith Montessori logo tells a story of what we're all about: planting seeds for life.
The central figure represents the whole child, with open arms symbolizing our welcoming community. The shapes below it look like two hands working together, showing our collaborative partnership with parents. They also look like a sprout in the earth, reminding us that our program is grounded in nature and focuses on nurturing natural growth.
It's a simple image that represents our commitment to a holistic, collaborative, and grounded approach to education, helping every child grow into their full potential.
What is Faith Montessori Homeschool Co-op?
Faith Montessori is a part-time homeschool cooperative program designed to supplement a child's education with the benefits of a Montessori environment. We are a 28-week program, operating on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and/or Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Unlike a full-time school, we do not fulfill all academic subject requirements. As a homeschooling family in South Carolina, it is the parent's responsibility to record 180 days of attendance and report to a South Carolina 3rd Option Homeschool Accountability Group. Our program provides 84 of those attendance days.
What is the Montessori method?
Maria Montessori believed in a "prepared environment" where children can learn and explore independently. Our co-op provides this environment, equipped with hands-on materials and guided by a trained Montessori Guide. The goal is to cultivate a child's natural curiosity and desire to learn at their own pace.
Who can attend Faith Montessori?
We serve homeschooled children ages 3 to 18. Our classrooms are mixed-age to support peer-to-peer learning and natural development.
Our age groups are:
-
Primary: ages 3–6 (3-year-olds must enroll in the half-day program)
-
Lower Elementary: ages 6–9
-
Upper Elementary: ages 9–12
-
Adolescent: ages 12–18 (please see our THRIVE Academy website)
What is the difference between Faith Montessori and a traditional school?
We offer the benefits of a Montessori environment without the commitment of a full-time, five-day-a-week schedule. This allows homeschool families to access hands-on learning and a supportive community while maintaining control over their child's overall education. We see ourselves as a supplement, coming alongside parents to support their homeschooling journey.
Why are you named "Faith"?
Faith Montessori was founded on the idea of trust in the process of education. The name reflects our belief in the "unseen"—that education is an act of planting seeds today with the confidence that they will grow into something meaningful over time.
While our name is Faith, we are not a religious co-op. We provide a space where families of all backgrounds are welcome. Our focus is on nurturing the whole child—academically, emotionally, and socially—and empowering them to thrive.
What is the role of parents in the co-op?
Faith Montessori is a community of parents learning and growing together. While we are a drop-off program, we require volunteer hours from each family to help the co-op run smoothly. Parents are also responsible for all at-home curriculum and record keeping. While we do have some follow-up work between the co-op and home, the parent is the primary resource for their child's education.
