Our Upper Elementary classroom is an eclectic Montessori-inspired program. Our two lead teachers are trained Montessori Guides. Children will be guided by the teacher-volunteers utilizing Montessori materials that are created with an elementary student in mind. These materials build upon the Lower Elementary lessons and add a deeper understanding as children move from concrete to abstract intelligence. It is a requirement that students in our Upper Elementary classroom have some  previous experience in a Montessori learning environment. All students will be required to follow simple instructions, read, and understand basic math principles. Parents of these students will need to spend time understanding the Montessori philosophy and how to implement it at home in concert with the child's time at co-op.

As a homeschooling parent, you are your child's teacher and ultimately in charge of their education. Parents of Upper Elementary students will need to dedicate around 3-4 hours of instruction on homeschooling days away from co-op. We evaluate our curriculum choices yearly to make sure we have the best resources for our purposes. A few curriculums we have used in the past and may use with your child include Brave Writer, Words Your Way, Shiller Math, Hands-On Equations, Waseca Biomes, Building Foundations for Scientific Understanding, and the Institute for Excellence in Writing.

Students enjoy extra-curricular activities such as art, drama, cooking, sign language, and music. Students may choose add-on extra curricular programs after co-op hours such as gym and dance.
